My daughter, Kory (4), really enjoyed her reading lessons with Reading Kingdom's online program.
To begin, your child will have to go through an assessment to see where they need to start in the program. Kory was started on Level 1. It can be a little difficult for the child to get through, but you can be there to encourage the child during the assessment. After that assessment and the following lessons, the child shouldn't need much more assistance. In fact, the program encourages you to let the child "fly" on their own and not provide too much guidance.
At first, Kory had some trouble navigating the keyboard. It was a bit frustrating for her at first since she was not familiar with a mouse and keyboard, but after the first few lessons she got the hang of it :)
Kory frequently asks to do her "lesson" for the day, sometimes twice per day. That's how I know she is enjoying this program. It's very encouraging with verbal feedback from the program and happy graphics shown each time she answers correctly.
Some of the first words covered are "girls," "some," "more," and "kids." The program is very clear with the audio and easy to understand what the narrator is saying.
After a little more time using the program, I plan to get out our BOB books to see how well Kory is doing with "real" reading.
Reading Kingdom is a great, gentle reading program, especially for younger children just starting on their reading journey ;) The program can be modified for older students as well. I hope you will give this program a try!

Kory's favorite "game." This is how she became familiar with the keyboard quickly |
Super colorful, fun graphics. Dancing mushrooms of encouragement! NOTE: Graphics can be changed for older students! |
After Kory does her lesson, she can play learning games. |
