We are just beginning our homeschool journey. Kory is 4 years old and is currently in Pre-K 2 days per week, so she has been learning many concepts there as well as at home. I found that after I checked the Scope and Sequence on SchoolhouseTeachers.com for Kindergarten level, she has mastered several skills listed. The Scope and Sequence is very helpful for finding out where your child is academically and to choose the best fit from resources on SchoolhouseTeachers.com.
For this review, we tried All About Maps in the Kindergarten Geography lesson plan menu.
The Unit Studies make a great supplement to any curriculum you may already be using. There are MANY Unit Studies available for all ages. Since Kory is more PreK/K4, we do lots of Unit Studies based on her interests.
Kory also enjoyed using World Book, which is a fantastic resource for all levels that is included with your SchoolhouseTeachers subscription. We (yes, both of us!) learned so much about the homes of different animals and insects. Did you know that underground rabbits live in a "warren?" I didn't!
Side Note: There are TONS of extras that will enrich your homeschool life. Under Resources, you will find helpful tools just for parents, the super helpful Literacy Center with lots of reading helps, even monthly menus! How did they know my struggle with meal planning?! I'm particularly excited about the resource, Encouragement for Homeschool Moms because I need ALL the encouragement!
Since you can use SchoolhouseTeachers.com for your complete curriculum, or as a supplement, of course you will want a Homeschool Planner. They have that!
What I found that really rounded out SchoolhouseTeachers for my family is that there is an 18-week Baby Beginnings course on the website, so I can even find things to do with my 14 month-old baby while Kory and I do school. This song I found in the Baby Beginnings course is precious! Noelle loves "The Farmer in the Dell" and especially loves when we change the words and this version of the song sounds better than the "creative" things Daddy and I come up with ;)
Bottom Line
SchoolhouseTeachers.com is a fantastic resource, especially for the new homeschool teacher and student. One of the things that is a requirement for me as a new homeschool Mama is that I need my hand held through this new adventure! SchoolhouseTeachers.com has fulfilled that requirement and more. The website is easy to navigate, I can find what I need, I can choose a lesson plan, download the lessons/click the link to the video, and go. Any preparation that may be needed is there so I don't have any surprises. If I need to print anything, it is linked conveniently. Perfect.
There is so much content to explore! I hope you will give SchoolhouseTeachers a try! I know I am thankful we were able to experience this wonderful homeschool resource. After reading some of the other Crew reviews, the resources available for upper grade-levels are very exciting - so definitely check that out if you have older kiddos!
